Acceptance Of A Donation And Authority To Negotiate, Execute, And Amend A Construction Contract For The Addition Of A Sports Complex At Lamar High School To Be Named David Z. Mafrige Family Sports Complex

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) administration asks the School Board, in accordance with Board Policy CW(LOCAL), Naming Facilities, to approve the acceptance of a donation from David Z. Mafrige in the amount of $1,200,000 for the construction of a sports complex on the campus of Lamar High School (HS), as well as additional funding for maintenance costs. The Lamar HS Alumni Association has agreed to be responsible for all other associated costs as will be outlined in the agreement should the item be approved.
• The new sports complex at Lamar HS is to be named David Z. Mafrige Family Sports Complex. Mr. Mafrige agrees to contribute $1.2 million toward construction. Mr. Mafrige also agrees to contribute $50,000 annually for 10 years following the completion of the building for recurring costs and maintenance.
• The Lamar HS Alumni Association agrees to provide an additional construction donation in an amount equal to the total cost of construction of the complex, less the Mr. Mafrige’s donation, prior to the beginning of the construction project.
• The construction project will be supervised by the district and will follow all applicable procurement laws.

RECOMMENDED: That the School Board approves acceptance of the donation and authorizes the superintendent of schools or designee to negotiate, execute, and amend a construction contract for the addition of a sports complex at Lamar High School to be named David Z. Mafrige Family Sports Complex, effective November 13, 2026.
