Approval Of A Resolution Declining The Establishment Of A Daily Period Of Prayer And Reading Of The Bible Or Other Religious Text

body

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) School Board is asked to approve a resolution declining the establishment of a daily period of prayer and reading of the Bible or other religious text on every campus.

Senate Bill 11 requires each Texas school board to take a record vote on a resolution to adopt a policy requiring every campus of the district to provide students and employees with an opportunity to participate in a period of prayer and reading of the Bible or other religious text on each school day. This vote must be taken no later than six months after the effective date of the bill’s changes to Section 25.0823 to the Texas Education Code, i.e., before March 1, 2026.

A copy of the resolution is attached for review.
