title

Adoption Of A Resolution Regarding Compensation To Employees And Continuing Business Operations During The 2024 Houston Derecho Storm

body

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) School Board is asked to consider a resolution authorizing payment to district employees on May 17, 2024, and granting Superintendent of Schools Mike Miles additional authority regarding district business operations, including the use of vendors not previously approved by the board. The exercise of the authority will be made in concert with the district’s procurement officer.

The resolution recites that the School Board finds public purpose and a benefit to HISD to pay employees according to the duty schedule the employees otherwise would have worked during normal operations while HISD was closed as a result of the Houston Derecho Storm. It further explains that flexibility in procurement is necessary to get the district operations back to normal. The administration believes such authority will be used to secure such services as electrical and heating, ventilation, and air condition (HVAC).

A copy of the resolution is attached to this item.
