Approval Of Proposed Revisions To FDA(LOCAL), Admissions: Interdistrict Transfers-First Reading

body

The purpose of this agenda item is to request that the Houston Independent School District (HISD) School Board approves revisions to FDA(LOCAL), Admissions: Interdistrict Transfers, to clarify that tuition requirements for out-of-district prekindergarten (pre-k) students are governed by Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements, to remove the nonresident transfer application date, and to clarify outdated policy language.

The revised policy continues to provide that, with the exception of pre-k, nonresident transfer status may be granted on a tuition-free basis one year at a time, provided the student qualifies for state funding. For pre-k students, tuition requirements are governed by the TEA.

This amendment provides clear guidance for determining whether tuition is required for students in pre-k who transfer into the district from outside HISD boundaries and aligns the local policy language with the applicable TEA requirements.

A copy of FDA(LOCAL) showing the proposed changes is attached.
