Approval Of Revisions To Resolutions Authorizing The Houston Independent School District To Apply For, Accept, Reject, Alter, Or Terminate Office Of The Governor Grants
body
On May 14, 2026, the Houston Independent School District (HISD) School Board approved three resolutions authorizing the district to apply for Office of the Governor (OOG) grants. The OOG subsequently notified the HISD Grant Development Department that the resolutions required revision and new approval. The revisions are to list the superintendent of schools as the district’s authorized official and the chief finance officer (CFO) as the district’s finance officer rather than the CFO as both. The School Board is asked to approve the revised resolutions to apply for, accept, reject, alter, or terminate OOG grants if awarded to the school district.
The three grant applications, if awarded, are intended to support the district police department’s primary mission to maintain a safe and secure environment within schools, fostering conditions where students, families, staff, and community members can learn and succeed without fear. The three grant applications under consideration by the OOG include the following:
• Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Active Attack Response Equipment Grant
• FY 2027 Rifle-Resistant Body Armor Grant
• FY 2027 Criminal Justice Grant
Copies of the revised resolutions are attached. Approval of these resolutions is to ensure legal authorization and compliance required with the terms and conditions of the OOG for the listed grant applications in the resolutions.
